The report shows the current amount of global solder consumption in electronics. It also gives details on the shares of different types of solders and finishes in the total solder consumption.
The additional net consumption taking into consideration recycling (worst case) of tin, silver and bismuth is calculated if the current solders were replaced by lead-free solders.
The article shows effects of lead-free soldering on recycling of PWBs and of solder wastes from manufacturing. Furtheron, the authors introduce ideas for new recycling technologies and alternative end of life scenarios.
