Biological impact of materials
The document shows the first results on the biological impact of soldering materials.
Lead, silver, bismuth, indium and antimony were tested on acute and chronic toxicity, as well as on carcinogenicity.

  • All metals exhibit low acute toxicity.
  • The chronic toxicity of lead and antimony is clearly higher than that of the other metals.
  • Antimony, however, shows similar toxicity, and additionally is mutagenic in the tests. The car-conigenicity test of Bi should be considered as negative. Silver, indium and lead did not show evidences of carcinogenicity.
